Central Radio News update

Central Radio - January 2021

IMPORTANT NEWS UPDATE...

13th of January 2021 - Sadly we heard the news that Bert Williams the godfather of Pirate Radio in Merseyside, Liverpool, Wirral sadly passed away.

The pioneer who built radio transmitters from anything he could get his hands on and build beautifully modulated broadcasting devices using old valve technology 807's being the most commonly used for MW broadcasts.

I could write an essay about Bert Williams and sadly I only ever met him once at Jim Browns funeral (The creator of Central Radio) when he was wearing a fishermans hat and dodgy looking trousers and mad looking shoes - He had a very strange fashion sense did our Bert - Bert is a legend - he influenced me getting involved in Pirate Radio after finding him woffling on late at night during one of his MAR test transmissions early 1980's. The amount of stations he helped to set up with his knowledge is the starting point from where all Pirate Radio across here began.

I really want to write more about Bert - it would take me many more memories to recall though for the amazing legacy he created. There are so many radio stations.

I would like to finally say the immortal words Bert is remembered for saying...

'ER YEAH'...

'THERE WHERE FAR TOO MANY IDIOTS INVOLVED'...

Remembering you Bert always and RIP fella.

The Coolest and original Pirate Radio DJ who started it all.

Brian Grant (Central Radio)
